A Brief Family History

Our Matriarch: Sophia Atkins Duckett Pylas AKA "Grandma Sophie"

Grandma Sophia was a loving mother, devoted wife, and a wonderful person to all who knew her. She was born to a slave. Her father was a sharecropper in the Piedmont section of Newberry, South Carolina.

When she became a young lady, she married Will Duckett. and they were blessed with 12 children. After the death of Will, Sophie married Hillery Pyles who had 11 of his own children. Sophie loved the children as if they were her own.'
